Software Update Results In Range Boost For Rivian R1S and R1T

The recent software update for Rivian’s R1S and R1T electric trucks has increased their real-world ranges by improving battery depth of discharge. The usable capacity of the 135 kWh battery pack has not been disclosed, but some R1T owners have reported a 14-mile increase in range post-update. Rivian will release a more affordable 105 kWh battery in a few months, as well as a 180 kWh “Max Pack” for over 400 miles of range. Choosing the Max Pack costs an extra $8,000, while the Standard Pack saves $8,000 but downgrades to a less powerful dual-motor system. The software update also improved the key fobs’ responsiveness and battery life. Rivian produced 24,337 electric trucks last year and aims to scale up to roughly 60,000 units in 2023.
