Reasons Why The Rivian R1S Is Better than the V8 Chevrolet Tahoe As A Three-Row Electric SUV

With its powerful gas engine, distinctive design, and luxurious interior, the mature Chevy Tahoe competes against the young and radical all-electric Rivian R1S.

The SUV market is expanding quickly due to its many advantages. The Rivian R1S has two different electric drivetrain configurations: a $6000 quad-motor configuration with four electric motors on each wheel and 835 horsepower and 908 lb-ft of torque, and a dual-motor layout at the front and rear with 600 horsepower and 600 lb-ft of torque.

The R1S accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in four seconds with a dual-motor arrangement and three seconds with a quad-motor setup. The 135 kW battery that powers the dual-motor variant has a range of 260 miles, while the 180 kW battery pack, which costs $6,000 extra, has a range of 320 miles. Both batteries have a 140-mile range and only require 20 minutes to fully charge.

There are two V8 gas guzzlers available for the Chevrolet Tahoe. A 5.3-liter V8 engine that produces 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque is standard on the majority of Tahoe models. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 6.8 seconds and achieves 15 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on the highway.

The larger, optional 6.2-liter V8 engine produces 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque, reducing the time needed to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph to 5.9 seconds. In the city and on the interstate, this vehicle gets 14 and 19 MPG, respectively. The Tahoe has a 480-mile driving range thanks to its large 24-gallon fuel tank.

 

Here things get complicated. The R1S is likely the finest option available if you need power and want to lessen your reliance on ICE engines. However, the Tahoe makes sense if you want pure V8 performance, outstanding towing capacity, and range.

Despite having almost twice as much power as the Tahoe’s V8, the Rivian R1S can only pull 7,700 pounds. With 14.9 inches of ground clearance, a 35.6 degree approach angle, and a 34.3 degree departure angle, the R1S performs better off-road.

 

With the R1S adjustable air suspension, you can change the settings according to the circumstances. Therefore, the adaptable suspensions provide exceptional ride comfort whether you’re off-roading, driving down the highway, or spending time with your family.

On the other hand, the Chevrolet Tahoe is a well-proven vehicle with plenty of experience. Up to 8,400 pounds can be towed by it. Although it doesn’t perform well off-road, the Tahoe is a great family vehicle and has a superior ride. With the optional air suspension, the Tahoe’s 8-inch ground clearance can be increased to 10-inches, which unquestionably provides better off-road control.

The R1S features a front trunk that is 11.1 cubic feet in size and a rear cargo trunk that is 5.1 cubic feet. Behind the second row there is 46.7 cubic feet of additional capacity, while behind the first row there is 88.2 cubic feet more.

The larger cargo space of the Chevrolet Tahoe makes it more practical. The Tahoe has a 25.5 cubic foot cargo area, then 72.6 cubic feet of space behind the second row of seats, and a huge 122.9 cubic feet of additional capacity behind the front seats.

One of the biggest reasons we adore the Rivian R1S is its interior. Everything you could possibly want from an interior in an SUV in this price range is present. It is spacious, cozy, and nicely made. The majority of the controls are provided digitally in the futuristic interior. The 15.6-inch OLED touchscreen, the 12.3-inch digital cluster, the 12.3-inch hardwood inserts combined with aluminum accents, and the leather steering wheel give the dashboard a slick aesthetic.

There is enough for seven passengers, and the first two rows are comfortable and spacious. Three shades of vegan leather are offered for the seats. Two motorized bucket seats with lumbar support, memory, heating, and cooling are included on the front side. The Chevy Tahoe follows suit with a useful cabin. The layout of the cabin is practical and ergonomically sound. To give the inside a more upscale vibe, sturdy materials and wooden accents are also used. The Tahoe also has more features and is more reasonably priced. In contrast to the Rivian, the 10.2-inch touchscreen and 12-inch cluster are quite practical and have an easy-to-use interface. Due to its wider body, the Tahoe also accommodates 7-8 passengers and provides them with greater comfort and room. Premium fabric or perforated leather are available for the seat coverings. For the same starting price as the Rivian R1S, the Tahoe has a superior collection of features. The interior features SiriusXM, a wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto system, heated and ventilated front seats, heated second-row seats, and a Bose 10-speaker premium audio system.

Rivian R1S Sets The Standard. The Rivian R1S justifies its greater price with raw power and totally opulent flavor, despite being much more expensive than the Chevrolet Tahoe.
