Rivian and Tesla are being pursued by a squadron of electric Jeeps.

Despite the Stellantis NV (STLA.MI) brand’s late start, Jeep will launch four all-electric sport utility vehicles by the end of 2025 in an effort to lead in electrification of off-road vehicles.

Jeep executives previewed an all-electric Jeep Recon inspired by the brand’s gasoline-powered Wrangler adventure vehicle, as well as a Wagoneer S that will be a battery-electric companion to the Grand Cherokee or Wagoneer family vehicles. In addition, they previewed a small Jeep Avenger EV aimed at Europeans. Jeep brand chief Christian Meunier stated that future electric Jeep models, including some that were not identified during Wednesday’s press conference, will help Jeep compete with other electric vehicle brands. Rivian and Scout, as well as General Motors Co’s reborn Hummer brand, are pitching their electric SUVs to prospective buyers with many of the same outdoor adventure and all-weather capability appeals that Jeep has used for decades. Tesla’s Model X and Model Y SUVs compete with Jeep for multi-purpose utility customers. Meunier believes the electric Recon and Wagoneer models, which will be available in 2024, and the European Avenger, which will be available in early 2023, will help the brand grow.

“We are not finished with growth,” Meunier said, adding that he could not provide volume projections for the coming years.

Jeep is now aiming for 50% of its US sales and 100% of its European sales to be fully electric by 2030, according to Meunier. Meunier stated that Jeep intends to sell electric vehicles in China, but he did not provide specifics. Stellantis announced in July that it would restructure its Jeep strategy in China, ending a joint venture with Chinese automaker GAC and shifting toward an imported lineup. According to Antonella Bruno, Jeep’s European chief, the Avenger will be used to increase the brand’s share of the compact SUV segment, where it already offers the Renegade model.Meunier stated that Jeep intends to sell electric vehicles in China, but he did not provide specifics.
