Are Rivian Cars Being Delivered?

Rivian has garnered popularity by being the first EV production company to release an all-electric pickup truck and SUV equipped with a quad-motor system into the market.

However, in any competitive business, you must always maximize your advantage. With Rivian being a hot topic of discussion these days, is it striking with the delivery of its cars while its popularity is at its peak?

Some Rivian models are being delivered while others are not. Delivery of the R1T and R1S equipped with the 314-mile large pack and the Adventure Package began in 2021 and will continue in 2022. Deliveries of models with the explorer package and those with the big max battery pack will start in 2023.

In any business, distribution is equally as important as production. The Covid 19 pandemic has hindered customer delivery services, but consumers still want what they want. Timely delivery is necessary for any business to succeed, especially for competitive businesses.

Read on to find out how many deliveries Rivian has made, the models slated for delivery in 2022 and 2023, the reason for several delays in delivery, and the most requested model.

When did Rivian do its first car delivery?

The first Rivian, R1T, was delivered in October 2021. The initial delivery of the first badge of rivian cars (R1T) was slated for 2020. However, due to some unforeseen circumstances, the deliveries were made in 2021.

How many vehicles did Rivian deliver in 2021?

Rivian aimed to produce at least 1,200 vehicles (1,200 R1T, 25 RIS, and 1O EDV) and deliver over 1,000 (1,000 R1T, 15 RIS, and 10 EDV) in 2021. However, Rivian Automotive, Inc manufactured 1,015 cars by the end of 2021 and delivered 920.

Although a detailed report on the number of R1T, R1S, and EDV deliveries has not been publicized, we know that the first R1T and R1S delivery was done in October and December 2021, respectively.

How many vehicles will Rivian deliver in 2022?

Reportedly, Rivian intends to produce at most 25,000 vehicles this year. Knowing that Rivian manufactured 1,015 cars in 2021 and made 920 deliveries, we expect it to make at least 20,000 deliveries this year if production goes as planned.

These 25,000 vehicles will include several Amazon electric delivery vans and R1T and R1S cars equipped with 135 kWh large batteries and the Adventure package. Production is already ongoing.

How long does it take to get a Rivian R1T?

From analysis, Rivian took about 2 years to meet up with its first preorders. As of December 2021, there were 71,000 preorders. With the recent increase in the cost of Rivian R1T and R1S, the number of preorders has reduced.

However, given Rivian intention to manufacture just 25,000 vehicles this year (2022), preordering a Rivian R1T or R1S now may take you at least two years to receive it. With the opening of a second manufacturing plant in 2024, the time between ordering and delivery will shorten.

Are R1T or R1S models equipped with the Big Max Battery Pack ready for delivery?

Rivian announced that the production of car models equipped with the big max battery pack or the Explorer package will commence in 2023. If production begins in early 2023, they may probably roll off the production line in late 2023 or early 2024.

Reasons for delayed delivery of Rivian cars

In 2020, the intended delivery date for the first badge of R1T was pushed back to September 2021. It resulted from a delay in production due to global chip shortage and supply chain constraints. The supply chain problem seems to be a fundamental limiting factor in Rivian’s total output.

This 2022, the ongoing Ukraine war and inflammation have been troublesome for the EV Industry. Faced with battery chemistry issues and the increased cost of commodities, Rivian has cut down on its production. The production of some models has been pushed back to 2023.

Rivian is an EV startup with just one manufacturing plant. Hence, it does not yet have a massive manufacturing capability. Its current manufacturing plant in Normal, Illinois, can only manufacture 150,000 vehicles yearly.

What plan is Rivian putting in place to meet up with delivery?

In any business, customer satisfaction is one of the most fundamental principles. Building a solid trust system with customers is extremely necessary. Knowing that the foundation of trust is honesty, Rivian has taken several actions to ensure customer satisfaction.

This 2022, Rivian announced its intention to manufacture just 25,000 vehicles, including R1T, R1S, and Amazon Electric delivery vans, due to supply chain constraints. It also stated that the estimated production number would be double without supply chain problems.

Rivian has decided to prioritize the production of the most demanded models (R1T and R1S vehicles equipped with the 135 kWh large batteries and the Adventure package). It aims to satisfy a majority of its customers. These models are already in production and are expected to roll off production for delivery in the second half of 2022.

Rivian intends to increase its manufacturing capacity by opening a second manufacturing plant in Georgia in 2024. This new plant will be capable of manufacturing 400,000 vehicles yearly. This increase in production will increase the pace of delivery.

Conclusion

The ongoing Ukraine war and increased commodity prices have constrained the EV industry. Notwithstanding, various EV production companies have taken strategies to meet customer expectations and ensure customer satisfaction.

Rivian has made R1T and R1S vehicles equipped with the 135 kWh large batteries and the Adventure package available. The models with the explorer package and big max battery pack will only be available after production in 2023.

With the opening of a second manufacturing plant in Georgia, Rivian will be able to double and probably triple its current delivery rate in the future. If you are interested in purchasing a Rivian R1T or R1S, check out my next article to find out if it is available in your country.
