A rare sight to see is a customer production R1S out in the wild. A rivian R1S in compass yellow has been spotted in a parking lot in Colorado. According to the person who spotted it’s Vin 0003.
Even though Rivian has been delivering the R1T electric adventure trucks for a while now, only two of the R1S vehicles have been officially delivered. They went to R.J. Scaringe, CEO, and Claire McDonough, CFO.
However, a third R1S in compass yellow has been spotted posted on Rivianforums by the administrator.
Because no other deliveries have been announced, it appears that the company was determined to be able to say they started producing the SUV in 2021, even if this in-house delivery isn’t what most people would consider crossing that finish line.
We suspect the spotted R1S is the third production model of the R1S Rivian is delivering because of its Vin number which is 0003.
Much like Rivian’s strategy with the Rivian R1T deliveries where it delivered the first models to employees, this particular R1S may be owned by a rivian employee. This is so that any kinks can be ironed out before Rivian starts shipping to real customers.
according to the company’s Twitter account, they will be “ramping production over the next few months on [the] way to full volume production.”
